Me
My name is John Fenner, and I am the music director of the Denver MountainAires barbershop chorus in Colorado. Throughout my 19 years in the Barbershop Harmony Society, I have directed both men’s and women’s barbershop choruses, sung in choruses and quartets, coached choruses and quartets, and arranged music. I have also earned four medals (singing, not directing) in international chorus competitions with The Phoenicians: two silver and two gold. I know the kind of intense training and discipline that goes into this level of singing.

Barbershop music has a unique structure in vocal music. To truly enjoy singing barbershop music, you need to know how to correctly produce a tone and to properly fit your part into the chord. There are certain requirements in technique, quality, and ability for each voice part. When done right, a barbershop chord has that particular thrill unknown in any other form of vocal music.
In this weblog, I offer insights, training, and experience from my perspective as a barbershop chorus director, singer, coach, and vocal musician.
